Restaurant Strikið: Nice terrace on the top

by Redang

This restaurant and brasserie is also a good place for just a drink or coffee. The top of the building can be, if the weather is good enough, an excellent place to enjoy the view of the city and the fjord called Eyjafjö.rður.

Bautinn: A restaurant worth its price

by gmg61

If you just want to have decent food and don't care about the environment, this is the place for you.The ambience is a bit like a fast-food restaurant, but the food is enjoyable and prices regular for Iceland. From vegetables to whale meat, this restaurant has a wide offers but lacks personality.

Blaa kannan - Café Paris: The blue pot

by gmg61

IMO this is the best place where to go in Akureiry!Nice, friendly bar, with nice ambiance, paintings hanging from the walls, newspapers and magazines ready for customers, friendly people. You can get breakfast or a drink and also get some food, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and in summer you can even take a seat outside in the sun and fresh air. There is no table service, customers are requested to serve themselves at the bar.

Bautinn: At last - value for money food in Iceland

by Otley

Let's face it ..food in Iceland is a problem. There isn't enough choice and it is simply too expensive. Bautinn in Akureyri was therefore a pleasant surprise. An excellent salad and soup bar was followed by well presented and very good value for money main courses. This restaurant has already been recommended by a previous reader and I can only concur. When we were there it was pretty much full at 6:30 in the evening and many were locals. Fish was excellent but they had a wide selection of food. All of it looked good.

Bláa Kannan: The Blue Cafe

by travelfrosch

This cafe, located in the striking blue house on Hafnarstræti, is an option for breakfast and coffee. During summer, it opens at 8AM. We didn't try it, but the bread and coffee smelled good as we walked by. I suspect it's somewhat pricey, but probably not pricier than the hotel breakfasts, so it's something to consider.

La Vita è Bella: Excellent Italian Restaurant

by travelfrosch

La Vita è Bella is a pleasant, romantic restaurant in downtown Akureyri. It is known locally for an excellent wine list and steaks, but it also has creditable Italian food. To keep the price down, you can split a pizza and drink the tap water generously provided in carafes. Excellent bread and spiced olive oil provided as part of the "cover charge." We split a four-cheese pizza. It was cheerfully served to us, already split, on two plates. The pizza was huge, so it was easily a full meal for both of us.

Nings: Icelandic Chinese Food?

by travelfrosch

For a change of pace, you can give this place a try. Its lunch special was filling and inexpensive. It also serves dinner specials for one or two. I had the vegetable rice noodles. I got a lot of noodles for about Kr 600. Cheap and filling.
