Frúin í Hamborg antique shop.: An awesome vintage/antique shop in Akureyri.

by Regina1965

Frúin í Hamborg is a very popular antique shop in Akureyri. It is ever so lovely with a lot of rooms filled with all kinds of antique. You can find almost everything in there and it is a delight just wandering around the store looking for small treasures. In a seperate room there is a vintage clothes store with all kinds of vintages clothes, fur coats and shoes.A highly recommended visit - I know most Icelandic women visit this shop when ever they are in Akureyri.Opening hours are: Monday-Friday 11:00-18:00. Saturday: 11:00-16:00.Shops like these add colour to the community :)

Glerártorg shopping-center.: A shopping-center in Akureyri North-Iceland.

by Regina1965

There is a small mall in Akureyri called Glerártorg. It is worth visiting while in this area. There is the supermarket Nettó, Toys R Us, United colors of Benetton and a lot of other clothes' stores, a big Rúmfatalagerinn department store with a vide selection of "everthing" so to speak, the Icelandic store 66 degrees North, Iceland, with a great selection of quality clothing, café, health-food store and a milk bar and many more stores. There is also a bank there.I add the website to Rúmfatalagerinn, just click on the picture of the map to see where Glerártorg is located. The official website of Glerártorg is in the making.

Tíu ellefu (10-11): 10-11? 10-4!

by travelfrosch

This convenient shop right at the intersection of two main streets in downtown Akureyri is a nice find. It has a small selection of groceries and beverages, along with a very good salad bar. While the store is not open from 10 to 11 as the name might indicate (nor is it open 24 hours despite the "24" decals posted everywhere), it has long hours and is a possible alternative to the expensive hotel and guesthouse breakfasts for those on a budget. The salad bar is a great choice for budget lunch or dinner. Depending on what you get, you'll spend Kr 500-1000 for a good meal-sized salad and a drink. Remember that you pay for the salad by size of the container, not weight.

Turninn: A small scale Willy Wonka

by brazwhazz

Turninn is a very cute red building that is about half the size of its neighbours. Icelanders are known for having a very sweet tooth. If you need a sugar fix, this is an excellent place to get it! If you have a sweet tooth or want to bring back something typically Icelandic for your friends (or, especially, kids), this makes an excellent stop! Will you dare try the chocolate-covered licorice? It all depends on your discipline.
