The Textile Museum
The museum exhibits a unique collection of homemade wool and textile items. It also contains beautiful Icelandic national costumes and artistic embroideries along with many of the tools and equipments used to produce them. The museum is the only one of its kind in Iceland. It was founded by the Women?s Union in the district and was opened at the centennial of Bl?ndu?s in 1976.

    Thingeyrar
A short drive south from Blonduos is the Thingeyrar Church, built 1864-1877. This church is one of the most noteworthy churches in Iceland. It is built in the Romanesque style fram granite blocks almost one meter thick. The ceiling is painted with 1000 golden stars and the church has 1000 small windowpanes. Thingeyrar was through the ages one of the largest estates in the county. The farm and the church can be seen from Highway no. 1. It was decided to build a monastery at Thingeyrar, the first in Iceland, and it was was founded in 1133. It followed the monastic order of Benedicts of Nurcia but the old church was dedicated to Saint Nicholas. We know that a this monastery, which has now completely disappeared, many of the Icelandic sagas of old were written.
