Without a doubt, Jökulsarlón is one of Iceland's most beautiful treasures. There are few places in the world when you can drive up to a glacial lagoon with great ease. My exposure to these lagoons is limited to just this one, but I can't imagine there are many more because there are so few glaciers left in the world, and most don't have roads...more
At a little over the half way point we shut off our engines and continued to the summit by trudging through the snow. This was not too easy as the snow was knee deep and the temperatures were rising. I felt like I had too many layers of clothes on and was tempted to peel the outer snowsuit off.more

Food excellent - really good and fast. Veggie options also. All at good value for money.Only downside was the service - the waitress who dealt with us did everything possible to be aloof - first time we encountered such a cold service in our entire visit here - possibly thought that as we were tourists we were second class citizens who would not...more

Iceland is not just ice as you can see from this photo. In fact, there are lots of green everywhere.
Lots & lots of films & memory sticks (or cards)!!!
Digitals, SLRs, zoom lens, whatever... just get them here! Oh, don't forget the batteries as well. It's cold here, so lots of battery power are needed!
Miscellaneous: MONEY!!! Iceland is the most expensive country I've ever been to! This 1 day excursion cost us almost US$300 per person, excluding food & accomodation!!!
Jokulsarlon! Even though it was a very short cruise, 30 mins or so, the impression lasts a lifetime! Here, floating on the glacial lake are icebergs of blue, white & black in color (depending on air & ash content) against the backdrop of huge ice-cap & mountain peaks. It's unbelievably beautiful!more
