This is where went right after picking up our rental car. It was a symbolic crossing between North America into Europe (even though we had flown into Europe). It is an interesting place to visit because you learn of the shift of the plates of the two continents.
Coming in the morning during the winter, we passed this site a total of three or four times since the sign is tiny and difficult to see in the dark. On the road from Keflavík to the bridge is not finished being paved so take it slow if you are in a small car.

On the coast, stop and see the Reykjanesviti lighthouse. Enjoy the views of the sea. On a clear day, you can see all the way to a small island about 10 miles off the coast of the Reykjanes Peninsula, Eldey Island. This island is about 1 square mile, and rises out of the sea to a height of 250 feet. Its sheer cliffs are home to large numbers of birds, including the largest gannet colony in the world.

The Bridge Between The Two Continents is located on the black sand beach of Sandvík, near Hafnir. This is a place where two of the earth’s tectonic plates split. As the tectonic plates of North America and Europe are drifting apart, this increases Iceland's area by a few millimeters each year.
