Hafnarfjörður - Gamla vínhúsið: Nice place to eat, great steak

This restaurant immediately attracks attention when arriving in the centre of Hafnarfjörður.The building once served as a winehouse.The location - close to the harbour and right in the centre of the town - makes it very easy accessible.It lies at the big roundabout next to Strandgata (the street with the Tourist Office).They serve nice food, without all the unnecessary frills that make it extra-costly. If you're looking for a decent meal, you're in the right place. You don't get excessive portions, but what you get is cooked like it should be - at least that was the case for the steak we had.The cost of the meals is very reasonable.There's also a Gamla vínhúsið in Reykjavik, but we haven't been there.

This place offers a wide variety of coffees, to drink-in or take-away.They also offer a range of cakes and sandwiches.Also popular here is the free wifi-access.Upstairs is a lounge-area, where it is more quiet to sit and chat than downstairs.It's always full of locals who come here for coffee, lunch or just to exchange the latest news.It's conveniently located in front of the tourist office.

Gamla Vinhusid: Avoid the burger.

This restaurant's name means the old winehouse. It is located at Vesturgata 4. It is an attractive looking restaurant and service was pleasant and friendly. I had quite a tasty pizza, but my husband had a burger and found it really fatty and awful, so we did not eat here again. The gull beer was good, though and the restaurant is nicely decorated with wine bottles all round the room. Next to Hafnarfjordur Museum.
FJÖRUKRÁIN RESTAURANT: Typical Viking restaurants

Actually, it's a big Viking building in the suburb of Reykjavík composed by 3 different restaurants where you really eat very well.The "Fjörugarðurinn" (Viking Feast Restaurant) and the "Fjörukráin" (Traditional Folk) are ideal for dinner, whereas for lunch you also have the "Fjaran".
Everything taste good and the bread is homemade.

I´m not much for saefood my self but my boyfriend tells me it´s the best fish in the capital area. They offer fresh fish in the noon. Our german friends went there and they thought the fish was great and theyr children could have fish and chips witch they where very happy about. They always have different fish in the noon, they say the always have what is most fresh from the sea.For people like my who are not the fish type you can get pasta, lasagne, steak, soup witch are about avarage.

This is a very touristy restaurant. I enjoyed the experience- from the Viking decor to the traditional Viking meal. I passed on beer , instead drinking soda. I did try the "Black Death" schnapps served in a lamb horn shot glass. My friend thought the food was a bit sketchy when she learned we were eating shark. I liked the novelty of trying shark for the first time. The lamb was great- I think it may have been the first time I tried lamb as well. We made reservations from our hotel in Reykjavik but because not many people signed up, the promised entertainment was cancelled. In lieu of signing Vikings, the waitress thought it a delightful idea for me to pose with a sword and mask thingy. Despite my awkward feeling at the time, I absolutely adore this picture.

Fjaran: On the Waterfront

Fjaran provides an elegant dining experience (a la carte) and can seat up to 58 guests. The house is ideally situated, offering picturesque view of the harbour. Built in 1841, recently renovated and restored to its original style, it provides a cosy, romantic atmosphere. The emphasize is on fish and game, a wide selection of gourmet dishes. One of the specialities is an exotic West Nordic side menu.
