The Sky...

Keflavik, pronounced as 'Keblavik' is about 48 km from Reykjavik, Iceland capital. It also where Iceland international airport is situated in. Also known as NATO base & was granted as a municipal status in 1949.The photos that I took around Keflavik were around the airport & inside the airport.Another photo of the sky & of course cars, as it was just the parking area infront of Keflavik International Airport...

Keflavik, pronounced as 'Keblavik' is about 48 km from Reykjavik, Iceland capital. It also where Iceland international airport is situated in. Also known as NATO base & was granted as a municipal status in 1949.The photos that I took around Keflavik were around the airport & inside the airport. This first photo was taken just after I got out from the airport; My friend Siggi was waiting for me. Though I couldn't wait to reach Reykjavik, Siggi asked me to take some photos around the place. What attracted to me was the sky; Cloudy, as if there would be a thunderstorm coming...in the horizon !

National celebrations

by Sharrie

When the Republic of Iceland was founded on 17 June 1944, Icelanders held national celebrations here. The Act of 1928 on the Protection of Pingvellir also states that this is 'the sacred site of all Icelanders'!

History

by Sharrie

Pingvellir also links all the important dates in the history of Iceland. Notably are the year 1000 where the old gods were given a send-off here when Christianity was introduced; the year 1262 where the Icelanders declared their loyalty to the Norwegian crown here & the year 1874 where the nation celebrated its 1st 1000 years. In 1944, the new republic was proclaimed here as well.

Pingvellir: Opened in 1928 & lies in the heart of a 50 sq. km national park. This is where the first sitting of the Althingi (Icelandic Parliament) was held in 930. It's a very important historic site to the Icelanders.

Blue Lagoon

by Sharrie

After having examined the combination of minerals in the water, scientists declared the BLUE LAGOON a spa. So, for those who are interested in spa (like some of my colleagues & their spouses), you'll be happy to know that the Blue Lagoon now offers spa packages & you can choose between energy, balance & nutrition treatments! Rejuvenate & enjoy!

Blue Lagoon

Proceed to the BLUE LAGOON & take a bath. The water is reputed to have healing properties for sufferers of skin ailment. This is one of the highlights of many visitors to Iceland.Formed by accident when condense steam from the power station was released into the lava field (to disappear) but the mineral solution made the lava watertight instead. Having been examined by scientists & declared safe, it was found to be excellent for healing some skin diseases.

Strokkur

by Sharrie

Geysir & Strokkur. Another must on the Golden Circle Route. Geysir - meaning 'Gusher' was formed in the 13th century but erupted at irregular intervals since an earthquake in 2000. Strokkur is just adjacent to Geysir & erupts at regular interval of 5-10 minutes.

Gullfoss

by Sharrie

One of the most beautiful waterfall I've come across. In order to see its magnificence, click on the photo to see the bigger picture. Of course, the only way one could feel the absolute beauty of it is to be there & see it with your own eyes!

Gullfoss

Gullfoss: At Gullfoss, the waters originate on the Langjokull glacier & drops a total of 32 m (104 ft) in 2 stages into the Gullfossgljufur Gorge. On a sunny day, you can see a huge rainbow across the entire waterfalls & it's really an incredible sight!
