backpack 65 l waterproof and windproof jacket, waterproof pants, fleece jacket, hut and gloves, thermal underwear, trekking boots lens 28-80 is enough (lens 300 or bigger if you are interested in pictures of birds) really good tent (strog wind and rain are common) 1)crampons and ice axes if you are planning walk on glacial ice 2) guide-book (I recommend Lonely Planet 'Iceland, Greenland & The Faroe Islands' but it's up to you) 3)if you like to choose unknown paths - topographical maps. You can buy it in Reykjavik or order on-line: National Land Survey of Iceland

Bring plenty of layers as the temperature ranges from 30 in the winter to 60 in the summer. When the sun is out and you are shielded from the wind, shorts are nice to have. Remember: if the wind is fromt he north, it will be sunny. If it's from the west, clouds. There's a cheap internet cafe at the bus station. If you are staying near Hallgrimskirkja, you can make the walk to the bus station in 15 minutes.

For our stay in May, we wore windbreaker jackets with a hooded sweattop underneath so we could make quick adjustments to the changing weather. skin cream if you have left a much warmer climate to get to Iceland(We came from Atlanta and it's 80 degrees Farenheit temperature). My skin started cracking when it became exposed to the colder temperature. My swim in the Blue Lagoon helped ease the problem. The Blue Lagoon sells skin creams in their giftshop.

Weather in Iceland changes constantly, so be prepared for everything. It can snow even in summer and it rains very often, so take good shoes if you want to hike. Iceland is a paradise for photographing: beautiful landscapes and a wonderful light all day and all night long. So bring enough film, you will shoot more than you think and films in Iceland are expensive.

Remember:1) visit iceland between july and end of August (otherwise you see only Rejkjavik)2) During this time it will be about 5-18 °C.3) If it rains or if it's windy you will feel the 5°C hard. If it's sunny you will feel hot despite of the 15-18C°.4) take shirts, but take also pullovers. Take a windjaket. Take somthing against the rain, because soon or later it will rain. 5) take bathclothes to visit the Blue lagoon (a must). In any village that yoi find on your road around the island you will find at least one store with the essential to survive.

I went in November and it was pretty cold - not unbearable as long as you keep moving. The upside is that all the houses, museums, shops and coffee bars are beautifully heated. Oddly enough the clothes shops were selling the same kind of skimpy tops and dresses that are fashionable in the UK - so I suppose everyone puts on a great big coat until they get to their night-time destination. In terms of fashion, the lesson here is that it's the same as at home. The light in Icleand is unique. I'm not an expert but I came home with some stunning pics - just that all of them were a little under exposed (as you'll see when I put them up). This might be due to the very few hours of daylight at that time of year, and the low sun...? Layers! That's the key to it....

Well, backpacking in Iceland what to take with you is always the big question, you are only allowed to take 20 kg into the country so you have to think....But you can take 60kg from the states, so they don´t have to think so much......The most important is a sleeping bag that can hold for at least -25°C if you are camping close to glaciers, wool socks but you can by them for a fare price here in Iceland. Waterproof everything, warm everything First aid kit should be enough, if you are coming from EES countries you should bring with you a form of E-112 paper wich will get you into the healthcare system, and is valid for 3 or 6 months so you then you do not have to pay more then 700 IKR for visiting a doctor. We use 220V power in Iceland, we adopt new technology very fast, for example we use celluar phones more then any other nation in the world, same with the internet and so on, so all...

Although warmer clothes are a definite must, don't hesitate to bring a bathing suit no mater what time of year you visit Iceland! The many natural hot springs feed public outdoor pools where the water temperature makes it possible to swim even in the cooler weather!

Waterproof, wind proof jacket with a hood. It rains a lot and an umbrella is useless because of the wind. Waterproof shoes also!Don't foget a bathing suit for the geothermal pools and the Blue Lagoon (although they do rent them at the Blue Lagoon along with towels).

anything waterproof If you intend to go outside Reykjavik, or spend more than about 20 minutes outside, make sure you have waterproofs. Take a change of shoes/boots as they will get wet. Walking boots are most useful. They are even fine for cocktail bars in Reykjavik (unless you're very self-conscious about being a bit scruffy).Breathable waterproof jacket and trousers are essential . Don't buy cheap ones - you'll regret it after about 5 minutes of rain. Don't bother with an umbrella - the rain can come from any direction; and it's likely to be too windy anyway. You will need thermal clothing even in the summer.Despite all of this, you will also need a swimming costume - for swimming in the outdoor thermally heated pools (even in winter). Everything is expensive there, so take what you need. Take more film than you think you will need. Take the bad weather sort! You can buy everything...
