Packing List

As long as you stay in Reykjavík and don't camp, a wheeled piece of luggage should be fine. For the day trips I went on, I brought a backpack for little things, like my camera and guidebooks, water, etc. This pic to the left shows what you need, a big comfy, warm, Icelandic wool sweater. It is so warm, I only wear it when it gets really chilly here (and that is like two days of the year!). But there you have to wear it a lot! Other essentials: Raincoat, liner, umbrella, wool hat, heavy boots, warm wool socks, heavy pants, long underwear, etc. I don't have the foggiest what you should wear in the summer. (Maybe check out some other Icelandic pages for that!)

Rain/waterproof clothing is a must. Umbrellas are useless because the precipitation falls horizontally. Warm clothing like sweaters and ski jackets are a BIG plus. A knit cap and gloves are also necessary. Don't forget your bathing suit! Bring an adapter for the electrical outlets.

Anything with wheels. Necessities for exploration: Jeans/Pants, sweaters, hiking boots, rain coat or poncho, gloves or mittens, warm hat, good socks. (bring a change of clothes and boots if you hike the rivers, wet clothes are the worst!) Chapstick and lotion are a must. It doesn't matter, just bring a camera! Make sure your camera has a strap. My uncle visited and never uses a camera strap. My aunt was carrying the camera, slipped on a rock while exploring a waterfall, and the camera is no longer. He still doesn't use a camera strap, but my aunt doesn't carry the camera much anymore.

===*WhAT TO BRING*===When travelling in Iceland you should bring along lightweight woollens, a sweater or cardigan, a rainproof (weather-proof) coat and sturdy walking shoes. Also bring your swimming suit. Travellers who are camping or heading into the interior will need warm underwear and socks, rubber boots and a warm sleeping bag.

Bring practical clothes, layers and rainproof for nature explores. And bring your latest fashion gear if you're going out clubbing - Icelanders are extremely trendy! Practical clothing, a stable tent and a warm sleeping bag.

In Iceland it can get very wet and sometimes very cold. Always prepare yourself for rain. So bring a rainproof coat for all seasons. An umbrella is sometimes useful, but I would not count on it for shelter from the rain in windy conditions. The summers are not so bad, but just in case bring along some woolen clothes; a sweater, a cardigan or woolen cap and scarf. Sturdy walking shoes are a necessity, waterproof if you have it because, especially in winter, the weather often changes rapidly from frost and snow to rain. A swimming suit should be kept at hand. In winter it can be hellishly cold so it is wise to bring warm underwear and socks.

All-Weather Back packing equipment. Some backpacks are able to be convertered into a cover that can be used for a shelter. Take or purchase some warm clothing and good foodwear. Take your normal toeletries with you because you have not find what you need and if you do they maybe much more expensive. Medical Facilities: Excellent medical facilities are available in Iceland. It is recommended to take a travel insurance before departure. Take a good camera or videocamera with plenty of film because you there is alot to see and photograph. I need not purchase any supplies there, so I do not know the prices. A warm sleepbag is a necessary. Wet weather gear is always handy to have with you. Emergency bag with matches, an all-weather shelter-sheet if hiking. If hiking, inform someone where you are going and for how long if you do this alone.

During our trip temperature was low till minus 16°C but we don't suffer at all, was a dry cold. No problem for us to run naked on the snow and splash in the warm natural pools (40°C). Any case wool pullover and thick wool socks are the best help for winter.Fold-Anna in Akureyri (Hafnarstraeti 85) is one of the Tax free shops of Iceland. Look my travelogues
