You should save a lot of money on the accomodation if you have your own sleeping bag. Be ready for any weather condition: wind, rain, sun, even snow.

Bring your hiking boots with a fairly stiff outer sole if you intend to wander on trails and lava fields on Iceland. The lava might cut right through your sneakers/sports shoes.
Make sure to pack a waterfroof windbreaker with a hood. It can get wet and windy! Also pack some hiking type shoes, they will blend right in at most places in the city.
Take a good Quality Tent & Rucksack as many over night locations are a long way from the road.

Warm clothes, lots of layers, fleeces and jumpers Lots of film, as there is much beauty to capture.
Warm & rain proof clothes. Also in summer. Not just a jacket. A pair of rain proof trousers are not a luxury !Hiking boots are a necessity.
