Saegreifnn: Sea Baron at the harbour

by VZ-Pam

Its a local favorite and its a bit shabby but the food is not bad for its price. The Lobster Bisque is the best while it also serves a variety of Grill Kebabs of fishes & Lobsters.Grilled Fish Kebabs are better than the Grilled Lobster. But I will sure advice not to miss lobster bisque.

Bæjarins beztu: Best Hot Dog in town

by VZ-Pam

I was told it is a very popular hotdog stand in Reykjavik & I went down to the harbour and bought 2 to try.250 isk each .I read Bill Clinton ate there. The hotdog is unique, not like the ones I ate in the States. It comes with somekind of ketchup, mayonnaise stuff & fried onions. I think they are famous for hotdogs but I did not really like it :(However its worth a try :)

Víkurskáli and Víkurgrill in Vík.: Hamburger with an egg on top.

by Regina1965

Víkurskáli in Vík is a shop and gas-station and joined to Víkurskáli is Víkurgrill which is a popular restaurant with domestic food as well as fast-food. We got a juicy hamburger with an egg on top. The ambiance is good in the restaurant with a great view of The Reynisdrangar rock formations and the coast-line. Ströndin-bistro and bar is in the same building and accommodates groups.

KS Co op Varmahlíð.: Varmahlíð in North-Iceland.

by Regina1965

There are a few shops/restaurants/gas-stations where all Icelanders stop while travelling in Iceland. Varmahlíð is one of them. When driving from Akureyri this is a good stop after a 95 km drive. At Varmahlíð there is a grocery-store, a good fast-food restaurant area and in a small hut east of Varmahlíð there is The Information center with a small tourist shop (see my picture). The nature and the valley there is so beautiful after having driven in mountain passes of Öxnadalsheiði for the longest time. And from Varmahlíð you descend again on a mountain, Vatnsskarð. At Varmahlíð village there is also a hotel, campsite, swimming pool, museums, gymnasium and an elementary school, post-office and horse-rental to name some.

Food (1/3): Supermarkets

by Redang

Food in Iceland is quite expensive, but there are some options not to spend too much.First of all, you can buy some food in the supermarkets, either goods in order to prepare your own sandwiches or take away food. There are some supermarkets both in Reykajvík and the rest of the country. This is a list (not necessary all the supermarkets are here): 10-11, 66 North, Bónus, Hagkaup, Krónan, Nóatún, Nýkaup. Another good places that offer this kind of food are the gas stations.Furthermore, many times lunch time comes when you are far from a town or a restaurant and you are not going to take the car, drive some (or many) kilometres, look for a place to eat and return to the lake or fall you are enjoying, so, I repeat again, buying the food is a really good option. You can’t (or maybe you can) imagine how nice is to have lunch or a light meal or some sandwiches looking at the landscape.

Geysir Bistro: Whaleburgers

by 2rs

Located right next to the Tourist info, the Geysir Bistro is tempting with seafood, brugers, steaks and sandviches. Their whaleburger is a tempting once in a lifetime experience for some. Hvalborgari með humarmajonesi, salati, lauk og tómat.Whaleburger with lobster mayonnaise, salad, onions and tomatoes.

Vikurgrill: Lamb chops and an ocean view

by 2rs

Cafe-Autogrill with a basic fastfood meny. Its a nice ocean view from the tables by the windows. Especially during the off season it may be quite a distance between places to grab a bite. And when arriving in Vik the, Vikagrill is a great place for a meal. Their recomended lamb chops with potatowedges and salads, is a way better option than the burges etc. The lamb carries some of the true taste of iceland. Of course accompanied by the local soft drink "Egils Appelsin Limonadi", and a "Draumir" chocolate covered licorice bar for deserts.

Kjöt og Kunst: Meat and Art in Hveragerdi

by 2rs

Cafe/restaurant, deli and art gallery. They have lots of Icelandic specialities wich you can have served at your table or bring with you. They have lunch buffet until 13 or 14. The food is cooked used geothermal heat. They sell small jars with Hakarl (rotten shark), that comes with the warning of not opening while in the car or the hotel room.

Café Paris: where the minute steak took an hour

by marielexoteria

I read the reviews of Café Paris on this site and on other communities and was actually looking forward to have a good time there too, only to find out that I apparently was asking for too much. To begin with, we took an empty table behind a table where 2-3 girls were ordering their food. The waitress saw us and gave us 2 of their menus for us to read and order (we had previously read the menu outside so we knew what we wanted). She didn't take our orders but we thought that somebody else would, since there were several waiters and waitresses and the place wasn't completely full. We see that people come and go and nobody came to take our order even after we waved and tried to get their attention...which we did after 15 minutes. We ordered their spaghetti bolognese and the minute steak with 2 sodas. As we waited, more people were coming in or leaving and they'd all get a quicker service. I...

Lunch stop by Krýsuvik church: what a great pit stop!

by marielexoteria

I don't know if it's allowed to do so, but after we visited Krýsuvik church we decided to stay a little longer and have our lunch in front of it. The sky was blue with some white clouds, sun was shining, it wasn't too warm or too cold, there was an occasional gently breeze and virtually no one in sight. On top of that we had a great view! What we ate inside our car (because there aren't any picnic tables) was 2 sandwiches, orange juice, and skyr that we bought on a 10-11 supermarket the day before. For us, it was a very nice moment in a very nice day - even if 2 bumblebees were trying to get some food out of us hehe.If you do something like that, please clean up after yourself!
