At Djúpalónssandur, west of Arnarstapi and Hellnar, are four "trial of strength" stones. This place used to have fishermen's huts and these stones were used to measure the fishermens' strenght.The stones are Fullsterkur (Fullstrong) 155 kg., Hálfsterkur (Halfstrong) 140 kg., Hálfdrættingur (Half-a-man) 49 kg. and Amlóði (Lazybones) 23 kg.To get a place on board a local ship one had to be able to lift Hálfdrættingur on its stall.These stones are still in their place at the beach. They are there for you to find out if you are an eligable seaman.
