Interestingly, it's right on the border between the American and the Eurasian tectonic plates, so you can stand with one foot in America and the other in Europe!What?Dimmuborgir (or 'dark cities') is a field of lava formations dating back to an eruption ca. 2,300 years ago - and is full of lava pillars, arches, fissures from which bubbles are still emitted, etc. The more famous ones have names - like the 'church' (cave with both sides open and a dome-shaped roof) or a series of 'castles' (being large enough to shelter a grown-up person). Dimmuborgir is best visited by following one of the designated walking trails, ranging from 15-minute Little Circle to the Crooked Path of 40-45 minutes. If you can...
