Innanlandsflug- Rekyavik's Domestic Airport by dharmabum222 Many people do not realize that you cannot take an international flight directly in to Rekyavik, you must fly in to Keflavik and either rent a car or take the flybus to Rekyavik, a 40 minute or so trip. Rekyavik's domestic airport is reserved for trip inside of Iceland or to the Westman or Faroe Islands or Greenland. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

tiny plane by dharmabum222 We knew that we wanted to get to the Westman Island and weighed the options between the ferry from porsmork or a flight from Rekyavik. We decided on the 23 minute flight as we wanted to see the island in no more than one day and the ferry is 3 hours itself after getting to porsmork. The man at the desk at the Salvation Army hostel booked our flight for us on the Flugfelag airline website and we left Rekyavik domestic airport at 7:35 am and returned at 5:30 pm...perfect! The cost of the flight was $180 USD round trip, less than we spent on drinks each later that night! Leave a Comment

Our Micra! by dharmabum222 We rented a car through www.kemwel.com and were told that we got the best deal around. Another VTer from REkyavik thought the deal sounded too good to be true...but it was true! Car rental is quite expensive in Iceland just like everything else but after figuring the cost difference between renting a car for 10 days with unlimited km and the amount of bus tickets/taxis we would need to pay for the same trip, there was no contest. We paid $600 USD (approx for 39000 ISK) for a Nissan Micra for 10 days with all VAT tax included and unlimited km/miles of which we drove 1398 miles! Leave a Comment

Icelandair at Keflavik airport by dharmabum222 Icelandair is working hard to become a discount airline flying from the mainland of Europe and the US to Iceland...in fact rumor has it that they are positioning themselves to be a discount airline from the US to points all over Europe with stops in Keflavik Iceland. The plane from the US was small and crowded with mediocre food but the flight back was larger and more roomy with better food. Overall, a great price for a great destination and they are adding locations everyday! Leave a Comment

Flying with Iceland Air by sue_stone Iceland has 2 airlines, both with flights from London (and other cities). Iceland Express (http://www.icelandexpress.com/), the 'budget' option, with flights between London and Reykjavik and Copenhagen, and Iceland Air (http://www.icelandair.co.uk/), the official carrier of Iceland, with flights from London, other European Cities and North America. We were lucky enough to get a cheap fair with Iceland Air, flying from London Heathrow airport, which is the closest and most convenient airport to us. Flying time from London to Reykjavik was 2.5 - 3 hours. One great thing about flying with Iceland Air was that there was no queues at check-in - at either end - which helped to make the airport experience a happy one. The Iceland Air staff wore funky retro style uniforms. They were very friendly and the flight was relaxing and food edible. Soft drinks were free of charge, but you had to pay for alcoholic drinks. Alex and "Little Blue" by sue_stone The easiest way to see the sites in Iceland is by hiring a car. Ok, so car hire in Iceland is amongst the dearest in Europe...but it gives you the flexibility to visit all the amazing sights at your pace. (Though of course, there are plenty of bus tours you can go on that cover many of these sights) Due to local contacts, we found affordable car rental through AG Car Rental. We hired a small Daewoo Kalos, perfect for the two of us, though meant that we had to stick to the main roads - but the "main" sights were easily accessible. If you hire a (much more expensive) 4WD you can visit all those real off the beaten track places. Our car was delivered to us at our apartment in Reykjavik at a pre-agreed time and then collected again as arranged. The car was clean and the service friendly. If you are going to hire a car, make sure you do some research so that you understand all the road signs. Also, ensure that you drive with your headlights on at all times, as this is law in Iceland - our hire car actually had its headlights wired to turn on whenever the engine was on. We found driving easy in Iceland - the roads were in good condition and well sign posted. Leave a Comment

Reykjavik Excursions runs a flybus from the international Keflavik Airport to Reykjavik which takes about 40 min and costs 1150 Kr. per person. This is the easiest way to get to Reykjavik from the airport if you aren't renting a car as they meet every arriving flight and no advance planning is required. They only drop off at hotels or BSI bus station (in central Reykjavik) but they misunderstood us so we ended up getting dropped off near our guesthouse. You can also combine this with a tour of the Blue Lagoon, but if you want to do this, try booking in advance with Iceland excursions (www.allrahanda.is) as it is cheaper and has better departure times. When u get off the Airplane at Keflavik airport and after collecting your luggage the easiest /no hassle way of getting to your hotel is to get the Airport shuttle, it is in the main reception area of the Airport in a small kiosk, u can tell them where /what hotel u are staying at and they will advise u of the fare, u can chose single or return, we chose return and we didnt have to advise them again when to collect us the morning we were going back to the airport, they were very efficient it took as far as i can remember about 30 min to get from the airport to our hotel across the Lava fields Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Iceland air by tuoedisni1 Iceland Air is not my preferred airline. This is based solely on service. However, it is the only airline that goes to Iceland. So grin and bear it because the end justifies the means! Leave a Comment

By plane. Is the most easiest. It could be quite exciting because of the windsituation in Iceland. There is quite windy at times, and that's why they have several directions as options to land with the plane. I would recommend you to rent a big 4X4 car and drive around the attractions of this beautyful land. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane
