I reached this area by bus. Not cheap the ticket...but like I said again & again, you must love nature to reach Iceland !
I took the bus from Skaftafell National Park; Changed at Landmannalaugar before reaching Reykjavik. All together it's about 11 to 12 hours, depends on the weather !
You can also reach this area on your own, rent a car, a jeep, a trouper...or even do your own hikings in reaching & out from it.
In all cases, make sure you have a good map of this area just so that you can be well-informed of the places or regions that you pass through...
