    The unpredictable weather in Iceland.

Vik is beautiful even in the rain.

Favorite thing: As you can see, the weather changes so quickly in Iceland. We left Reykjavik with blue skies and within an hour clouds were overhead and rain started falling shortly. In Vik, the visibility was poor, but we could only imagine what a nice village this must be in great weather. Certainly lots of hiking in the area. So be sure to take your weather gear to any part of Iceland. You'll never know when you may need it.

My Sweet Memory in Vik i Myrdal !

by coceng Written Sep 30, 2004
    Vik i Myrdal in Iceland

Fondest memory: This is my sweet memory in Vik i Myrdal ! My luggage !
    3 of them...
The far left is the backpack where I put my foods, prepared to me by Siggi in Reykjavik ! Lots of food in the backpack like breads, jams, chicken wings, 'instant' Spaghetti Bolognese etc etc ! oh, plus a thermos to put some hot drink, Siggi reminded me...
The middle one is THE TENT ! The white roll that you can see is the plastic cover to cover the tent if it rains as the tent is made by cloth ! Again, it's Siggi's great great grandparent's tent ! (Smile)
The far right is my own bagpack where I put my clothes, my guidebooks, my rolls of film, all my personal belongings...
This photo was taken as I was waiting to hitchhike to my next destination which was supposed to be Skaftafell National Park; Nobody could give me a lift hence I had to wait for the bus to stop in Hofn instead while stopped by for a few minutes in Skaftafell...
    What a memory !
Feeling sentimental now !MY NEXT DESTINATION : HOFN... [Please click]

    Vik i Myrdal in Iceland

Fondest memory: In Vik i Myrdal, there are a few cliffs where you can climb to see the bird life inhabited onto these cliffs & also these cliffs would be a stand point where you can capture the areas around Vik !
This photo was taken when I was already down there in Vik Village, I had to see The Vik Church or also known as Vikurkirkja...
I could take the easy road to reach the church but I chose to reach it by climbing this small hill instead, very easy climb ! Please click on the link below to see the church & also the interiors of the church taken by me from my digital camera...The Interiors of VIKURKIRKJA

Fondest memory: In Vik i Myrdal, there are a few cliffs where you can climb to see the bird life inhabited onto these cliffs & also these cliffs would be a stand point where you can capture the areas around Vik !
There was also a couple up there...2 German girls !
They were looking for puffins they told me & we just laughed of NOT seeing any !
They also told me that they went on a whale excursion, paid lots of money but sadly no whale turned up !
We had a chat, about our travels & they had never been to Asia !
Slowly, I walked back with them & took another photo; This plant thing...

Feeling so satisfied ! Feeling so good !
I took a rest, taking a puff...blowing the smoke up the air !
After that, I lied down on my stomach while over seeing the edge of the cliff...
Captured another photo as you can see on the left !

You can drive your 4WD on top the cliff as the path on my photo.
I followed this path till the end & guess what I saw ?

Fondest memory: In Vik i Myrdal, there are a few cliffs where you can climb to see the bird life inhabited onto these cliffs & also these cliffs would be a stand point where you can capture the areas around Vik !
The top of the cliff is itself a vast area ! The great thing is that you can also drive a 4WD up to the top ! No, not normal car unfortunately...
This photo was taken by me towards the other side of the cliff, just look at the blinding sun !
So beautiful as there are some islands on the other side, too bad that I wouldn't have enough time to see them all.

Now I'm reaching the top ! The sights are just totally amazing !
It took me about 45 minutes to clamber to the top, not easy task as I had to walk/climb to the top, not vertical you know !
Look at this photo ! I could see the Vik village down below & the North Atlantic Sea hitting the shore of Vik...So beautiful !

    Vik i Myrdal in Iceland

Fondest memory: In Vik i Myrdal, there are a few cliffs where you can climb to see the bird life inhabited onto these cliffs & also these cliffs would be a stand point where you can capture the areas around Vik !
There would be paths (not that clear) of reaching the top of the cliff !
I took the easy way by climbing up the cliff by treading the paths that I could see meaning the paths that people have walked on hence the grass that being stepped on would turn grey & dying...
