This church was designed by Gudjon Sameulsson. One of the first Icelandic architects & built by a local carpenter by the name of Matthias Einarsson... A closer look of the stain-glass windows, one of them... To me the design is very arty & geometrical ! All have references to the holy scripture... Leave a Comment

Now, I took this photo, the altar...The painting was painted by Brynjolfur Thordarson, which is a copy of the original by Carl Block. On this photo, you can also see the candlesticks which are used during christening & funerals... Leave a Comment

There was nobody around when I was in there so i had the time of my life taking these photos, not that I would be prohibited. The glass windows : Very beautiful as they are ! They were sanctified on the 15th June 1997 by the bishop Sigurbjorn Einarsson; These work of art are made by the artist Hrafnhildur Agustsdottir who lives & work in New York. Leave a Comment

In Icelandic, this church is called Vikurkirkja. This church was designed by Gudjon Sameulsson. One of the first Icelandic architects & built by a local carpenter by the name of Matthias Einarsson... This church was built in 1930 to 1934, but it looks so new to my eyes ! Maybe everything is well-tidied & well-kept. Now I took this photo, the pipe organ...which is a classic, 11 voice organ with 2 sound boards & a pedal. It was carved by Sigridur Kristjansdottir from Grund. The tuning of this pipe organ was also assisted by the company Marcusen & Son from Denmark. Leave a Comment
