Check out the Carlow Castle, or what is left of it... The original castle was a three-storey rectangular block with cylindrical corner towers and It is thought to have been built by William de Marshal, Earl of Pembroke and Lord of Leinster between 1207 and 1213 and its design appears to have been directly inspired by French examples.

carlow castle is an interesting ruin located in central carlow. it was built by william de marshal and the lord of leinster between 1207 and 1213. this castle withstood an attack by cromwell in 1650. in 1814 the castle was bought by a wealthy carlow buinessman who wanted to turn it into an insane asylum. he tried to enlarge the door of the castle with dynamite. unfortunately the charge was too big and he blew up half of the castle. today you see all that remains of carlow castle.
