O'Connors Pub: of course
  • Tip Rating:
  • Gus O'Connors Pub is of course a Must for all fans of irish folk-music . Gus O'Connor's Pub is dating back to the year 1832 and nowadays they have many live-perfpormances of traditional music every night in the summer-season, the sessions start at 09.30p.m. and last untill late at night. Everything is un-formal and easy and you will also see that this is not just a tourist-show, but the music comes out of the performers hearts...
Gus O'Connor's Pub is also well known for great food : the kitchen is open between noon and 09.00p.m.

Dont care for a dress-code, this is not the state-opera, this is for the ordinary people and tourists are welcome as well.

O'Connors Pub: The Pubs Have it All
  • Tip Rating:
  • There's traditional Irish music almost everynight at all 3 of the pubs. It gets pretty crowded in them, though, so be warned!

    Whatever you want. It's Ireland!

    O'Connors Pub: Ceol agus Craic
There are 3 pubs in Doolin - O'Connors down near the sea and McGanns and McDermotts up the road in the second village.

All 3 have traditional Irish music sessions every night in high season and at weekends during the Winter - the perfect companion to a pint!

In winter a hot port or toddy (whiskey) by the fire is a my favourite :)

    Anything goes - mainly casual

  • Directions: Doolin's not very big - you can walk from one end to the other in under ten minutes - so the pubs are pretty hard to miss. On a really good night you'll hear them before you see them anyhow ;-)

Great trad music. Good people. A bit more touristy than the others but still a good stop.

    O'Connors Pub: O'Connors
This is where everything is happening in Doolin. It is located on the main street in Doolin (you can’t miss it). It has some pretty good pub food and is a place where the whole town (as well as many tourists gather). There is often live traditional Irish music playing at nights.

    O'Connors Pub: Gus O'Connor's Pub
Gus O'Connor died in the beginning of 2003 and the new owner tries to set the tradition further, that Gus started and made Doolin so famous for it’s life music.

We had a great evening there, sitting close to the musicians (a table became vacant) and we occupied it with an English family and an Swiss-English couple. We had a great time listening to the musicians playing, enjoying our beers and talking to the happy campers.

    Dress casual

Even though it's a really touristy place this pub is great fun. Packed with people and there's a good Irish music sessions every night (It started around 9:30)! Everybody is allowed to join, very original and nice!

Don't wear your warm jumper - it can get really hot in here!

    O'Connors Pub: Irish Hospitality
This place rocks!! We stopped at the pub for just a couple of beers during our golf trip, not expecting to stay, as we had an early tee time. Much to the chagrine of one of our foursome, we got sucked up in the atmosphere and hospitality of the crowd, and didn't leave until the wee hours of the morning. The bartenders were great...and patient with us drunks. You can't help but meet a ton of people in this place, and if you don't have a good time here, then you won't enjoy any bar in Ireland.

O'Connors Pub: Whistling flutes and banging on Bodhrans
The band starts at 9:30 and plays until they're finished. Look for the sign "Reserved for Musicians" and if it's above your table, go sit somewhere else!
