by sourbugger The Ailwee caves are heavily promoted around here and signposted from just about everywhere. Whilst I have not personally visited them, everyone who has ever mentioned them whilst I have been around have said they are about as interesting as standing in a common or garden shed with the lights out. I suppose that if you have never been in a cave before or have kids who need something to distract them i wet weather then it might be just about worth visiting “Ireland’s premier show caves” (and probably the only ones). How’s that for damning with faint praise ?
Remember that you too were once fresh faced and easily impressed - just like Father Dougal in the surreal comedy series "Father Ted". They too visited the caves in an episode called "The Mainland" where the caves are referred to (I suspect the Ailwee caves did not see the script first) as "The very dark caves"
Stand in a garden shed with a torchlight, having first fixed a few old bog-rolls from the ceiling with glue. Leave a Comment

by Krumlovgirl Ummm...there aren't really any tourist traps in Doolin. Some of the locals might say that the ferry service to Inishere is a tourist trap, but since that's the only way for us tourists to get to the island, it is kind of necessary. Of course, if you make friends with a local then they might take you for free! Leave a Comment
