Muhammad Ali is sometimes cited as the birthplace of the Cassis Clay's great great granddaddy ! I'm not too sure if the evidence is very sound...but it is at least possible.
Much more certain is the fact that the unflappable des lynam came from this little town, before his parents (both nurses) headed off to the uk for work. I certainly never guessed that he had strong irish roots. At this point the vast majority of readers will be thinking "who is the hell is de lynam?". Well Dessie was perhaps the UK most well known sports presenter over a period of about 40 years.Football was really his game but boxing would have figured as well. He was also well known as something of a "Ladies man"...a phrase that would perhaps haunt him after a fling with Caroline Cossey (or was it Barry ?)
Famously urbane and smooth as silk, he did make the odd gaff on-screen...including the classic :
"More football later, but first let's see the goals from the Scottish Cup final."

A must visit if you are in this area is the Cliffs of Moher which are about 30 miles northwest of Ennis. Quite easy to get there, from downtown you can take Cusack road to N85 then R478 to the cliffs.

The vast void you'll see when visiting the Cliffs have no words for me to express the wonders of nature! Go to the top, see the ruin mounted on it, enjoy the breeze, the silence and the vastity of the view. You won't regret it.
