No visit to Ireland would be complete without witnessing a game of hurling, hard to describe it here but it is said to be the fastest field sport in the world. 15 players with sticks in their hands trying to put a hard tennis ball size "sliotar" into the net or over the bar.
Not too be missed. The season generally runs from Spring to September each year with games played on the weekend usually Sundays in GAA grounds around the country. The local ground in Ennis is called Cusack Park. Tickets and usually available on match day and unless it is a major game you should have no problem getting one. Cost (depending on game €5-20)
Equipment: A calm composure, as you try to follow the speed of game and try to drown out the expletives been hurled at the players, manager and referee by the crowd. But it is always good natured and unlike most big sports rival supports are not segregated as there is never any trouble between fans. That happens on the field.
You could easily have 40,000+ fans at a stadium and all will be good natured, family friendly.
For any of your budget travellers here a tip! If you wait until half time they will usually open the main gates and you can watch the rest of the second half for free!!
