certain pubs in this region of the world have a charm that is hard to describe but after being there one feels at home. Paddy Quinn is such a place. Easy spot to make friends. The first time you are a stranger, the second time you are a regular!
This was easily the best pint of Guinness I've had in all my trips to Ireland. Minogue's Bar is located in Tulla and while it may not look like your classic Irish pub from the outside, it is perfect on the inside. It is cozy and friendly and has the feel of a place where you can just settle in let the time pass as you are drinking their fantastic Guinness. The village of Tulla has great historical significance and is home to the legendary Tulla Ceili Band!
We went to this pub on recommendation from my brother-in-law, otherwise we might have tragically passed it by. Located on the northern tip of the Burren, Loclainn's Whiskey Bar is about as quaint and comfortable as a bar can be. It truly fits the romantic image people have of the warm and cozy Irish pub. The wall behind the bar is covered in shelves of exotic spirits, many just for show though they do have a wide variety of whiskey's to drink. You can nestle into the nook behind the bar where a hot gas fire burns, or slip into the "snug" area for a more private conversation. The landlady was very helpful in finding a good place for lunch, as well as a nice walk. As a bonus the bathrooms are probably nicest, cleanest bathrooms in Ireland :)
Most people who have visited Bunratty castle have been in Mac's Bar. It really is a nice and cozy place, and really is a true pub. What most visitors don't realize is that Mac's isn't just open during the day for tourists at the folk park. It is open every night and often features some great Irish music. Some excellent musicians have played there. If you are staying in the area, give the pub a call or drop in to see when there is music on. I never visit Ennis without stopping at Cruise's pub for a pint, and if the timing is right, a nice session. The woodwork is dark and there is always a turf fire going in each of the pubs fireplaces. Just beyond the first fireplace, where musicians usually sit, is a snug-ish room with it's own fireplace. It is very cozy, especially on a chilly day. Cruises is well know for it's live traditonal music. I came here once during the Ennis Trad Festival and there were two sessions going on at once, one in the front and one in the back room!There are a bunch of cool pubs in Ennis, but Cruises is my favorite. I've heard the food is good, but I've never eaten here. casual
After a long day on the Cliffs, we were ready for a bit of evening entertainment to go along with our meal. This was easily achieved by a short trip down the road to the pub centre of Doolin (although I cannot remember exactly what it was called!). It actually was a hopping spot with all sorts of activity taking place. We certainly did not mind sharing a table with one or more customers as the night wore on because they were from far and wide. It was great fun meeting new people and listening to the tales of their travels! The big thing that had everyone's attention was the football (soccer) match on the tele as the Euro2000 competition was nearing its final stages. It was a great game but all I can remember is that Portugal's young team came out victorious on that night.
Ok, Ok.This is well known as a tourist pub,but I am a tourist! This pub was established in 1620 , and I thought it was cool. It is has two stories. It has two restaurants or you can order from the bar ,like we did. The mushroom soup is yummy. It has a cozy,rustic decor and you can sit by the fire and listen to live music.,while you enjoy a pint or some hot tea .We had a fun time there. casual
Even though it's a really touristy place this pub is great fun. Packed with people and there's a good Irish music sessions every night! Everybody is allowed to join, very original and nice! Don't wear your warm jumper - it can get really hot in here!
Peppers Bar is an oasis at a crossroads in Feakle, Co. Clare. It is well known as a place for some of the best Irish music to be heard anywhere.
Located on the main street of Ennis, it is a great place to meet some locals!
