Custy's Music Shop: Traditional Irish Music Shop in Ennis

by donpaul77

Custy's Traditional Music Shop is the place to go for finding traditional music recordings and instruments. The shop isn't big, but to me it almost feels like it's the heart of Ennis. Here they give lessons, you can listen to every CD before you buy, and the shop owner will be only too happy to recommend some great music if you're not sure what you are looking for. Even if you aren't a musician, go there and get a close look at the wonderful traditional instruments they sell. It's a good place to find out where there is trad music going on. Custy's sells many Irish traditional instruments, CDs, and music books. While many of the instruments may be expensive if you aren't a serious musician, at least buy yourself an inexpensive tin whistle and try learning a few tunes. Also, Custy's has a great collection of CDs. If your exposure to Irish music has been limited to the Dubliners and River...

The Blarney Woolen Mills: Wool, Pottery and Crystal near Bunratty Castle

by donpaul77

Across the road from Bunratty Castle is the Blarney Woolen Mills, which features very nice woolen and linen products, as well as local crystal, pottery, fragrances, clothing, etc. They feature Aran sweaters as well as some more contemporary designs from brands like Fisherman. You will also find a great assortment of wool socks, hats, jackets, scarves, linens, etc. They also carry various lines of pottery from well known makers such as Stephen Pearce. and is more geared towards crafts for the home. Upstairs is a furniture store. There is also a cafe on the second floor.Last time I was there, the Woolen Mills deducted the VAT right then and there, so there was no extra paperwork, except dropping the receipt in a box at the airport. I don't know if they still do it this way. There are sales going on invariably throughout the year. I'm a big fan of Fisherman's line of woolen products. They...

2 Euro Store: cheap supplies you forgot to pack

by donpaul77

You may laugh at this tip, but this store is really handy if you find you forgot or ran out of some basic travel supply, and especially if you are staying at a self catering place. Everything is 2 euro or less (for the most part). They sell everything from personal hygiene products to stationary to candy and batteries and towels. It's a lot cheaper than going to a regular shop! 2 euro, more or less :)

The Mulrooney-sisters at Cliffs of Moher: Listen to live music & buy their CDs/ Casettes

by globetrott

You may buy a lot of Music-CDs and Cassettes directely at the souvenir-shop at the parking of the Cliffs of Moher. A bit cheaper than at the main shop you may as well go to the small shop-wagon of the family Mulrooney. All of the daughters seems to have recorded CDs and most of them are really great !In summer you may see at least one of the sisters singing high above the Cliffs, somewhere on your way to O'Connor's Tower. my favorite was Tina Mulrooney, playing the harp and singing with a really beautiful voice and her CD "A memory of Ireland" is my favorite ! I would like to say that the general souvenir-shop at the cliffs is not a bargain - it is ment for the bustourists, who do not have a lot of possibilities to compare prices and accept the prices given. For fans of Tina Mulrooney and her sisters the shop at the Cliffs of Moher might be one of the few places, where you get these CDs...
