Cobh Heritage Center - Immigrations Story
If your an American of Irish descent visiting Cobh, you are probably here to see where your family departed from Ireland. I am of Irish descent, but my family immigrated from the port in Dublin. My partner Mark's family immigrated from Cobh. So seeing the harbor and the port was fascinating for him. The museum here at the Heritage Center is an excellent museum. It tells the story of the Irish immigration to the United States and to Australia. There are also exhibits on the Titantic and the Lusitania. Some of the exhibits were very moving and realistic showing the difficulty and dangers the immigrants faced. Outside of the museum is the customary gift shop area. The gift shops and snack areas are very good one though and not just cheap touristy rip off. The museum is located in the old Cobh Rail Station. There is an admission charge. I have read mixed reviews on the Heritage Center at several online sites. I, personally, found the musuemto be well worth the admission price and would highly recommend it.
