The Glucksman, Cork's newest Art Gallery has already in its short lifetime won many architectural awards. Though extremely modernist in design it blends seamlessly with its more mature companions on the UCC campus. Inside, windows jut right out into the surrounding trees, and visitors enjoy the space almost as much as the artworks. Exhibitions tend to be more cutting edge than those on offer at the other galleries and there are artist talks and receptions free to the public.
The Glucksman is open on Sundays as well as weekdays. This is very welcome in Cork where so many things close on Sundays. There is a shop and a cafe. The cafe is downstairs with floor to ceiling windows creating a really nice flow between inside and out. I would recommend the cafe for coffee and desert but I think it's a bit overpriced for a full lunch.
The gallery is open Tuesday-Saturday from !0-5pm, Sunday 12-5pm and late-night Thursday until 8pm. For current exhibition details, events, happenings etc., check the website.
A more recent development at the Glucksman is a series of free concerts held on a monthly basis. Again, check the website for details.
