Allihies is a small village on the north road leading from Kenmare to Dursey Island and it might be a great place tospend the night in a B&B, because many of these colorful houses have a few rooms to let for tourists.
Recently I even saw a large bus from Netherlands there, so this is not anymore a "secret" tip
Fondest memory: this village has the best collection of great colorful houses, I remember, and I also saw many of these beautiful houses already as a background in german movies on TV
For a couple of years ago I traveled around Ireland by car, and Cork was definitly one of the nicest places I have ever been to.
Driving along the coastline of Ireland gives some amazing views of nature. Alot of the small villages located in the county of Cork has nice small pubs & B&B. I can especially recommend Ardmore!
Although not that cheap, but a strongly recommended way to spend your vacation!
A magic place, lost in West Cork's rolling hills, with Cork citys own river Lee rising here-its beautiful lakeside chapel, and the historical ties to Corks own founder St Finbarr add a special feel- a must .
Fondest memory: Activities in Gougane Barra include cycling; the Cork City-Beara-Gougane Barra cycle route passes through Gougane Barra and finishes here. Gougane Barra is a favourite location for trout anglers and painters
Fondest memory: I passed this corner earlier in the day, when the artist was just beginning to work. This picture is from later in the afternoon, when he was almost finished. The entire artwork is made from painted pebbles.
Cobh harbour, in the south of the town might be interesting for you, as it served as the main-port for people immigrating to the USA in the 19th and 20th century
Fondest memory: The town Cork is great for shopping, but I mostly go into the landscapes and did not spend a lot of time in big cities.
Go to Cobh. It's a little town close to Cork at the sea with a lot of colourful houses, a nice port and a huge beautiful church!
Fondest memory: The storm! We went there in January and it was really stormy (see picture). Unfortunately we had to take the ferry the following night..... I think I'm still a bit sick ;-)
Fondest memory: Sitting at a sunny beach in Inchidoney over the 2002 Easter weekend while it was pouring out of the heavens back home in Dublin :-)
While the Hayfield Manor was a tad bit more expensive than we like to spend, one gets what one pays...more
I stayed here this past weekend and it was a great experience. The hotel is just across the room...more
