The pronounciation of Cobh is Cove, just in case you were wondering and had broken your tongue while trying already ... ;-)

Not much need to be said about Blarney and its castle. Just for the few people who might not have heard of it: It lies 8 km north of Cork City, and you are supposed to be climbing the stairs to the top of Blarney castle, where you will lie down on your back, grabbed by your legs and hang your head over the wall to kiss a stone which is meant to give you the gift of eloquence. Be prepared to queue up for a considerable length of time for this privilege, especially during the tourist season. If you so wish you can also ask for a photo to be taken of this memorable event at the entrance of the castle grounds. If you were expecting to see anything else in Blarney Castle you will be disappointed as it is just a shell.

If you think you can't do without Blarney Castle you should take the time and visit the gardens next to the castle. They have a few nice walks, like the megalithic walk for example.

I would strongly recommend to be content with your current level of eloquence and visit Barryscourt Castle instead, which is similar in appearance, but has been restored and where you can go on a very interesting guided tour (see Off the Beaten Path).
