Swilly Walk/Father Hegarty's Rock

Swilly Walk/Father Hegarty's Rock, Buncrana

1 Review  The "Swilly Walk" begins near town centre and runs past several Irish landmarks. First, over the Castle Bridge, past the Buncrana Castle, the "Keep", and then out along the Lough Swilly. There is a fort, en route, and, then, the most popular destination, Father Hegarty's Rock. The walk itself is...

The Town Clock

The Town Clock, Buncrana

3 Reviews  I'm not a fan of Irish food, and I think Buncrana cuisine is 'lacking" to be polite. However, locals, including my relatives, swear by "The Town Clock" for eating "in town" and I'm apt to agree. Fish & Chips is always a safe bet.

Drift Inn: Live Irish Music in an Historic Tavern

Drift Inn: Live Irish Music in an Historic Tavern, Buncrana

gilescorey Says:  Drift Inn is a handsome old building(the old train station, in fact) with tasty food in the daytime and live, traditional music evenings. At my last visit, the traditional tunes were wednesdays, and seats can be tough to come by. The cozy small rooms mean impeded views, as...

The Swilly Ferry

The Swilly Ferry, Buncrana

gilescorey Says:  The Swilly Ferry runs seasonally, from Buncrana to Rathmullan. I'm not sure of the start up date, but the last ferry is usually the first weekend of September. It's relatively inexpensive - I believe, 12 Euro per car. And, if you're traveling between Inishowen and Dunfanaghy,...

Mamore Gap

Mamore Gap, Buncrana

gilescorey Says:  Mamore Gap is a beautiful mountain pass that opens to magnificent ocean vistas. I think we saw only one other car during this entire trip. The road is narrow, winding, and difficult to find. When heading out of Buncrana Centre on the Mountain Road(Carn Road), make a hard...
