Donegal tweed is famous for its warmth and durability. The tweed is woven from wool and used to make caps, jackets, sweaters, and other clothing.
Traditionally, Donegal tweed was woven by hand -- and there are still about 25 local craftsmen working at home, turning out the all-wool, handwoven fabric that is treasured throughout the world. However, most Donegal tweed now comes from the Magee, Molloy & McNutt factory power looms.
In Downings, a visitor can purchase Donegal tweed at McNutts Tweed Shop & Coffee House.

Down the street from An Teach Bán and across the street from the Downings Bay Hotel, there is a convenience store and gift shop named Mac Giolla Bhríde. During my visit, I stopped in and purchased some postcards.
Pasted on an outside window, there are also some real estate listings -- in case you are curious.
