    Climbing Mount Errigal

by Krumel Written May 30, 2015

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Equipment: We started off from the car park on the R251, a few kilometres east of Dunlewy. There is a trail from there directly up to Errigal, but as we wanted to also take in Mackoght we walked a bit further down the road and took the trail towards Altan, and the up to Mackoght, from where we had fantastic views over Altan Lough towards Aghla More. There was a small descent then down to the col between Mackoght and Errigal, and from there we picked up the main trail up to Errigal.

The path is very badly eroded in places with lots of loose stones and rubble underfoot. Coming up to the top there are some very narrow stretches, with quite some drops on either side. The views from the top on a clear day are amazing, and even though it was rather hazy when we got to the top the views were still very much worth the climb!

Kayaking off the Donegal South coast

by Krumel Updated May 30, 2015

The Donegal coast offers some fantastic scenery, and the best way to appreciate it is actually from the water.

We went for kayaking trip with some friends from Glencolmcille to Port and back, and at every turn there was another sea stack, arch, or a cave to marvel at.

We had organised our trip privately, so I'm not sure if there is a local operator in that area, but Shearwater Seakayaking usually have 1-2 trips to Donegal on their calendar.

    Links Golf at Rosapenna

by BillNJ Written Dec 5, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In Downings, there is the 4-star Rosapenna Hotel & Golf Resort which has two 18-hole links courses. At the time of my visit in November, the resort was closed for the season. I like the sport of golf -- so I hope to return to Downings someday to play these links courses which have received great reviews.

With a large coastline to the Atlantic Ocean, County Donegal is a popular place for sea fishing. Below is a link to a website with detailed fishing information from the Northern Regional Fisheries Board.

    Cruit Island Golf Course

by neuromancerWILL Written Aug 24, 2006

This amazing little place is so hard to find, and so hard to get to - but if you can manage it. WOW!

Take the road from Dungloe to Kincasslough. Just past the Viking House Hotel (which used to be owned by Daniel O'Donnell) turn left for a sign that says "Cruit Island Golf Course". Follow the road for what only seems like 2-3miles, but might actually take you 15-20 mins drive as most of it is not on a road but on a 1 car wide dirt track. You will come out at the end through 3 holes of the golf course into the club house which was a large car park. It is only a nine hole course but it is unlike anything anywhere in the world.

Even if you don't like golf - GO! The scenery is just too good and you really feel like you are on the edge of the world.

Equipment: Club hire available. You can play even when the club house is not open as there is a little honesty box where you pay about 20euro and just go round yourselves.
