In Downings, there is the 4-star Rosapenna Hotel & Golf Resort which has two 18-hole links courses. At the time of my visit in November, the resort was closed for the season. I like the sport of golf -- so I hope to return to Downings someday to play these links courses which have received great reviews.

This amazing little place is so hard to find, and so hard to get to - but if you can manage it. WOW!Take the road from Dungloe to Kincasslough. Just past the Viking House Hotel (which used to be owned by Daniel O'Donnell) turn left for a sign that says "Cruit Island Golf Course". Follow the road for what only seems like 2-3miles, but might actually take you 15-20 mins drive as most of it is not on a road but on a 1 car wide dirt track. You will come out at the end through 3 holes of the golf course into the club house which was a large car park. It is only a nine hole course but it is unlike anything anywhere in the world.Even if you don't like golf - GO! The scenery is just too good and you really feel like you are on the edge of the world.
