Temple bar could become a tourist trap, the drinks are a bit higher and you'll be sitting next to the tourists in restaurants. But it also is Dublin's cultural quarter with art galleries, street performers, festivals, etc. In addition to some nice restaurants, pubs, clubs, and shops, there are art center, music center, and theater. The street is very busy all day long especially at night. Go out there, and join the cloud. Have a pint with locals and visitors from other countries!

A relaxed bar / pub which had live music on when we were there. All of the songs seemed to be about Belfast which was a bit confusing but never mind.
The atmosphere was very upbeat.
One table is in a disused lift shaft which is a bit scary when you look up but it's a nice secluded corner to cuddle up in. The walls also featured old signs including the old tavern prices and a notice banning goats.
Dress Code: Casual to trendy, jeans and trainers are fine.

I'm not sure what the name of this pub was, but it was more cheesy and touristy than most of the other places in Temple Bar. In addition, I was only in there for maybe15 min before some pompous jerk IDed me and kicked me out because I was under 21 (I was 20). The drinking age in Ireland is 18 -- WTF? Anywho, I didn't really mind because we were just about to leave. My advice: avoid at all costs!

I went to the Temple Bar Pub on a Monday night, and it was PACKED with people! It had a very fun and upbeat atmosphere with great live music. It was a perfect starting point for our partying in Temple Bar. I met a lot of fun and friendly people and had a wonderful time.

Temple Bar would be classified as the main tourist entertainment area in Dublin. It comprises of a series of cobbeled laneways and roads. Many of the buildings have a olde worlde, quaint appearance, comprising of arty shops, galleries, restaurants, bars and hotels.
I have stayed and walked in this area many times, the first time was approx 10 years ago when it was hardly known, things have certainly changed since. It got the reputation of being a magnet for rowdy stag and hen partys, well unfortunatley I think that perception is right. I've found the bars to be full of groups of men and women dressed in fancy clothes making plenty of noise.
I also think that Temple Bar is not good value of money, it definately is very expensive for food and drink, and has become slightly tacky. It offers nothing special that you couldn't get elsewhere for a cheaper price.
After saying that there are a couple of decent bars. The first one is The Oliver St John Gogartys Bar which is in Fleet Street. A nice bar to sit and sip a pint on Friday afternoon watching the world go by.
They have an upstairs bar which plays live traditional music every night. The complex can get very busy at night, so be warned!!!
Another bar that is worth a visit is Buskers, part of the Temple Bar Hotel. This has a modern theme, has plenty of seating and serves a nice meal during the day. Again at night it becomes very busy and is popular with the stag and hen crowd.

Temple Bar area is the heart of the agitation at night. It is a street filled with pubs and crazy people !
I went to two pubs there : the famous "Temple Bar" and The Oliver St. John Gogarty Pub". There were both very fun with some live irish music.
It's of course packed with tourists, but I also met some very funny and drunk locals.

I decided to go inside, because it was during the afternoon ( around 5pm) and there weren't lots of people around. A young guy gave away a small guitarconcert singing songs from REM, U2, ... He was actually pretty talented. I
On my second visit to Dublin, I came back here in the afternoon around 3pm and again, there was a young guy playing the guitar and singing. I can't remember if it was the same one as the first time, but this one also had an amazing voice!
On my next visit to Dublin, I'll definitely check out the Quay's Bar again.

Every time we passed by, the pub seemed to be full, so we figured it had to be for a good reason. When we finally managed to enter, we understood why. What an atmosphere!
Ok, if you are looking for a traditional Irish pub to have a good chat, then this is not the place to be! If however, you are looking for a big celebration, you might find it here.
We had great fun with a group of Scots, singing all sorts of pub songs!
The pub stays open until 2.30 am!

In Dublin there are a lot of pubs offering live music, many of them are in or around Temple Bar. Oliver St. John Gogarty, named for one of Ireland's literary greats is a very nice pub, with an inviting old-world atmosphere, shelves of empty bottles, stacks of dusty books, a horseshoe-shaped bar, and old barrels for seats. There are traditional-music sessions most every night from 9 to 11pm at least, as well as Saturday at 4:30pm, and Sunday from noon to 2pm.
