 | Dublin Off the Beaten Path Reviews | 121 - 130 of 184 | | Here is another of my personal favourites in Dublin. On the very southern borders lies the Dublin/Wicklow mountains and numerous walking trails go up into them. Climbing Tworock mountain will give you views over Dublin and the bay like you will not get anywhere else. Leave a Comment

Donabate is in north county Dublin and you'll have to set a day (or at least half a day) aside for a visit. It will however not be a wasted day and you'll be sure to enjoy the lovely scenery. Newbridge house is situated there and is well worth a visit. Grey Squirrels, Rabbits and Hares are all over the shop and makes for lovely viewing. Leave a Comment

I'm a little biased here as I worked for a company who was involved in the plaster restoration of Newman House back in 1998 :) Newman House was the original part of University College Dublin, before the college moved down to Belfield.James Joyce studied in Newman House as part of his degree & the poet Gerard Manley Hopkins taught here. The House has been extensively restored to bring it back what it would have been like in the Georgian age (1700's) Leave a Comment

As put in my intro, I found it amazing that you can find such an impressive nature so close to such a big city. The Wicklow Mountains/Glendalough/Evoka tour from Tir na nog Tours is worth its money (only 25 euros) and you get hunks of information on the tour, listen to Irish music & hear many stories on Ireland, Dublin and life in general, really. ... Dublin is a city that still rewards more than most the adventurous traveller who is willing to deviate from the path chosen by the travel agents and commercial guide books. It pays to have a keen sense of history, but it is equally rewarding for those who merely crave an ambience found all too infrequently in capital cities; one where the individual still reigns, the point of life is to enjoy it while you still have it, and where the city is more than a backdrop to life's vicissitudes - it is as much a character in life's drama as you or I. Not too far from the Centre of Dublin there are some hidden gardens behind some fences and with a lot of trees. Many years ago they used to be crown land now the public can enjoy them as well. You can lose yourslef in these gardens and forget that you are in the middle of a cosmopolitan city. Leave a Comment

Bibliophiles and coffee lovers may appreciate the small cafe situated upstairs in The Winding Stairs bookshop on the quays, just up from Bachelors Walk where one can both browse and imbibe one's purchases simultaneously - just be sure you apply the correct activity to the appropriate purchase, paper is quite indigestible I find!
