II Baccaro: Italian Food
Sitting outside on a nice summers night watching the world go by. Its like a celler inside and pretty dark. The food is delicious and the staff are really friendly and helpful . On the menu you will find a great selection of starters including Bruschetta, Salads, Italian Cheeses, toasted ciabatta bread, baked mushrooms, and grilled aubergine. Prices start from 2.50 to around 7.60. For mains they have a huge selection to choose from including all types of pasta, as well as grilled chicken, stuffed squid, stuffed tomatoes, Grilled Italian sauage. Prices for mains around 9.20 to 16.00. Menu changes constantly .A lot of people give this a great review espeically Italians.
Favorite Dish: Its a cheap and cheerful restaurant with a lot of Italian food ..lol...... try the bruschetta, most of the food l have tried here was delicious. .
II Barccaro: Not so good as remembered
It has been a few years since we last went hear and my other half was keen to return, always maintaining that, outside of Italy it was his favourite Italian Restaurant.
Four of us booked for Valentines night.
The restaurant is in a vaulted cellar in two halves. Unfortunately it was raining heavily when we arrived and with a small fence making a very small vestibule where you wait to be seated not all of the three parties including ourselves could fit in.
Once seated we were given menus but then a time elapsed before our orders were taken.
Jugs of house wine were fine. The menu is heavy on meat and cheese particularly for the starters, when it came to mains there is very little fish although there are some veggie dishes. We all enjoyed our starters, a mixed cheese and meat, one mushrooms, one olives and one aubergine salad.
However the cheese and meats was a large platter which took a while to finish and several times waiting staff approached our table to see if we had finished. It therefore was not a surprise to have our mains arrive as our starter plates were taken. A break would have been appreciated.
The two pasta dishes, one with mushrooms, one ravioli with ham were declared good. However my lamb chops were over cooked and not very hot. His sausages were nothing special.
There was a choice of only four puds and they were heavy on almonds. Only one person went for one, I thought it was disgusting, like chocolate blancmange, very chemical tasting.
The espressos were good, hot and strong.
Our next trip to Dublin probably won't include a return visit and if we did we would stick to pasta and forget the puddings although I am assured that the menu does change regularly.
Favorite Dish: Aubergine salad. A rich creamy dish that is great to mop up with good bread.
II Barccaro: Best for Italian with athmosphere
This restaurant is set in an underground celler with a vaulted roof. Food is authentic Italian- well presented and at a very good price. Wine list is very well priced. You must book even during week-days. Best bet at the last minute is to call in rather than telephone.
Favorite Dish: Menu changes on a regular basis. All the food I have tasted is good and I am extremely fond of Italian food. I won't eat in Italian Restautants that are not owned and run by Italian people.
II Barccaro: Quality Italian in Temple Bar
Absolutely gorgeous cellar-like decor, full of italians, so it must be good.
They even have their own resident "Norm" - no matter how they try, the guy wont ever leave! He was a bit weird though - cos I was wearing a red top, it OBVIOUSLY meant I was a communist! Hmmm!!
Favorite Dish: i had porcetta romana with salad, chocolate mousse cake with a great big thomping slash of rum (niiiiice!)
Il Bacaro: Il Bacaro
Excellent, friendly and cosy atmosphere.
Favorite Dish: An assortment of Italian cheese and meat -delicious with their bead- as starters.
Aubergines as main course -beautiful and tasty!
Their menu changes all the time though.
