We had a little VT meeting here in August when AlainSmeets came to town, along with his friend & IrishFem (Louise) 's brother MIchael and his friend Peter.
Favorite Dish: I just had egg-noodles, cos (a)i was broke and (b) had already eaten dinner :) but there is always room for some wine ;-)
Everyone was happy with what they had ordered, so I guess thats a Thumbs Up!
I just loved this restaurant. Although l thought the tables a little pushed together and you could overhear everyone's conversations. We were 6 people and all we did was laugh. I shall blame that on Alain_Smeets who has a wonderful sense of humour and kept us all entertained. The ambience was nice the service excellent and the food delicious. Everyone enjoyed and shared. Early bird menu from Sun to Thurs 5pm to 7.30 and Fri to Sat 5pm to 7pm at a cost of 17.95 Euro.
Favorite Dish: Starters cost from 6 Euro for thai spring rolls with a sweet chilli sauce. Also on the menu, grilled marinated tiger prawns in a peanut sauce, Thai fish cakes, mussels, and chicken and coconut soup all between 6 and 8 Euro. You can also order a Thai Orchid Platter for 2/3 people at a cost of 20 Euro, which works out at better value. Main courses consist of Green, yellow and red curries. Stir fried beef or chicken, Tiger prawns, stir fried squid, fried noodles. Expect to pay from 13 to 18 Euro for a main course.
Two things about eating out in Dublin in general. It's expensive. It tends to be unimaginative. The Thai Orchid has neither of those drawbacks. The food is wonderful and the service is average, a direct result, I feel, of the fact that tipping is not something that people do in Ireland.
Favorite Dish: All of the curries are excellent. Try Banofi Pie for dessert, more Irish than Thai, but fabulous nonetheless.
Probably not in a spot where you'd expect to find such a nice restaurant but it's very centralised and no reason why you shouldn't pop in. Once you're inside you'll understand why it is so highly recommended.
Favorite Dish: Anything really but their fried rice is not to be skipped.
