Interestingly enough, Dublin is as Roman Catholic as anywhere in the Republic of Ireland, yet it has two Protestant Cathedrals and no Roman Catholic one. Go figure. Anyway, I am personally very strongly opposed to these Roman Catholic vs. Protestant strifes as I think it's political and not religious (as the Irish might want you to believe). I don't consider myself either Catholic or Protestant in this context. I do however consider myslef a Christian. Anyway, that's enough of my take on Irish politics. I was going to say, Christchurch cathedral is an impressive place to visit - do so. Leave a Comment

My buddy loves visiting churches. Not sure why - she's not religious in any way. I hate them because when I was a kid, attendance was compulsory every Sunday until I was 16. I am curious, so the Blue Mosque in Istanbul was interesting because I'd never been inside a mosque before. Similarly I've been interested enough to visit a Russian Orthodox church or a Buddhist temple. However I did not like St Peters or Notre Dame - maybe because they're more tourist attractions than churches. Anyway, Christ Church did nothing for me. Sure its part of the history for the country and city, but a dull part as far as I'm concerned (spoken like a true agnostic).

One of the two main cathedrals in Dublin... worth touring through, if only to see the mummified cat and mouse on display. Leave a Comment Other Contact: http://www.trailblazer.ie/region

Originally built in the 1200s, Christchurch Cathedral is just a short walk from the center of the City and other major tourist attractions (Dublin Castle, Temple Bar, etc.) We were unable to go into the church to visit because mass was in session, but the outside was pretty impressive and worth the walk up the street. Note that admission to the church does cost 6 euros. Leave a Comment

Over 1000 years old, it's the oldest buliding in Dublin. It was first built out of wood and was later re-built form stone. The original arches were round but in later years were changed to more pointed onces- it gives the cathedral very gothic style.

The Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin was founded in 1038, by the Norse king Sitric Silkenbeard. There is one unique proof of the preservative quality of the air in the cathedral: there are more than 150 years old mummified bodies of a cat and a rat that were found accidentally. The other one had been chasing the other, and they were trapped in an organ pipe. They are still seen in a glass box inside the church.

This is definitely a must see because it is one the most historically famous places in Dublin. Although once inside it is similar to your basic cathedral it is very pretty. One thing my sister and I thought was really funny were the bones of a cat chasing a mouse that apparently got petrified into the wall inside the church, that was definitely unique. Right across the street is a famous fish and chips place although there is no seating inside, it was really good food!. Leave a Comment

This place is stunning. The architecture and features are so nice that you can enjoy it by just sitting in one of the chairs and taking it all in. It's so wonderful. Leave a Comment
