Phoenix Park, Dublin

Have a look at Phoenix Park. Measuring just under 1,800 acres, Phoenix Park is the largest city park in Europe. The great green expanse in the west of the city is a mixture of wilderness and formal landscape gardens. It offers a variety of recreational activities such as Gaelic football, polo and cricket. A towering Papal Cross marks the visit of Pope John Paul II, back in 1979. Also enclosed within the park's boundaries are a Visitors' Centre, Ashtown Castle, Dublin Zoo, Aras an Uachtarain (the official residence of the President of Ireland) and the Residence of the United States' Ambassador. Phoenix Park also has a bird sanctuary and a herd of fallow deer.

The Phoenix Park maintained by the Office of Public Works is the single largest enclosed city park in Europe. It covers 1,752 acres of wilderness and landscaped gardens situated within the city of Dublin. Enclosed within seven miles of stone walls are Aras an Uachtarain Home of the president of Ireland and the famed Dublin Zoological Gardens, Ashtown Castle and the official residence of the United States Ambassador to Ireland.
The Park is also a home to a herd of fallow deers since 1662 now numbering more than 500 .

Wellington Obelisk
Men play a game of football in front of the Wellington Obelisk, in Phoenix Park, Dublin, Republic of Ireland. The 62.5 meter obelisk was erected in 1817 in tribute to the Duke of Wellington who was born in the city. The large park, popular for sports, was originally Priory lands which became a royal deer park in the 17th century.

Dublin Zoo
Over 235 species of wild animals and exotic birds inhabit Dublin Zoo, a vast expanse within Phoenix Park. Created in 1830, this zoo is the third-oldest in the world, with London and Paris as 'big siblings'. The thirty acres provide lots of treats for the family, including a pet's corner and new attractions such as City Farm, Monkey Island and Fringes of the Artic. The train ride around the zoo is also fun and a welcome rest for any weary legs!

You should go and visit Phoenix Park, one of the biggest parks in Europe, the Zoo that is inside Phoenix Park.
Grafton street (near Trinity College) were it's full with musicians or joglers that entertain people, in front of the many shops.
Temple Bar. The biggest tourist atraction. Pubs, restaurants everywhere, various events in the main square, gallerys and every Saturday a 'Food market' where you can sit and eat many different 'home made' delicasies (sushi, sweet crepes, cheeses, fresh mussels etc.)

The monument was built in memory of the Duke of Wellington, who defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo.

The name is a dirived from the Irish "fionn uisce" meaning "clear water".

It is one of the largest enclosed city parks in Europe.

Dublin Zoo is a wonderful place although it wasn't as modern as some of the zoos that I have visited.
