St Stephen's Green: The Green
  • Tip Rating:
  • St. Stephen's Green in the heart of Dublin. Just a little oasis of calm when the weather is nice. You really can't hear the traffic thanks to all the trees.

It's not St. Patrick's or Christ Church Cathedral, but I enjoyed services at Dublin Unitarian Church, 11 a.m. on Sundays. According to the church's website, the church is housed in a "19th century building at the west corner of St. Stephen’s Green. Built in the Gothic revival style, the church was opened in 1863 and quickly came to distinguish itself as a haven for liberal religious thinking, founded on a belief in reason and tolerance."

You could spend hours in St. Stephen's Green; it's what a park is suppose to be! It's green, lush, filled with beautiful flowers, fountains, interesting sculpture, and tree-lined walks. According to DublinTourist.com, "St. Stephen's Green was enclosed in 1664. The 9 hectare(22 acre) park was laid out in its present form in 1880. Landscaped with flowerbeds, trees, a fountain and a lake, the green is dotted with memorials to eminent Dubliners. The 1887 bandstand is still the focal point for free daytime concerts in summer."

Joyce called this 'the soul of the city' and this 9 hectare park is a source of welcome respite from the congestion of urban life outside it. It was originally common grazing ground and converted to a park in 1880 by Arthur Guinness. It now has paved walks, ponds, fountains, bandstands and colourful flowerbeds as well as memorials to most of the city's famous citizens. A popular place for lunch for office workers and walks for mothers with children.

St Stephen's Green: Take a walk!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Until 1880 the park had been leased to the house-owners around the square.

St. Stephen's Green has become a popular park, where you can feed the ducks and swans, seat in one of its benches or simply sunbathe.

St Stephen's Green: Ardilaun Lodge at St. Stephen's Green
  • Tip Rating:
  • This beautiful lodge at the edge of Harcourt Street reminds of Lord Ardilaun,a member of the Guinness-family, who donated money for the creation of St. Stephen's Green in 1880.

This is a wonderful water fountain at St. Stephens church. It was water lillies I think. It was quite unusual as I have never seen anything like this fountain, so I took a picture for your viewing.

This is a lovely park in the centre of Dublin. It is located at the south end of Grafton Street.
It's a nice place to sit in the shade on a warm summer's day.
