The Dublin Civic Museum
The homeliest museum in Dublin as it deals exclusively with things Dublin. The items on display change often but for true Dubs the most poignant exhibit is the battered stone head of Admiral Nelson, once atop his much missed pillar in O'Connell Street. (See "The Chimney" below for what I think about that particular episode in Irish history!). To add insult to injury, Dublin Corporation (the same guys who obliterated the excavated remains of Viking Dublin with their hideous headquarter 'bunker' complex on Wood Quay), have now erected a giant metal spike on the site of Nelson's Pillar. Something to do with modern art or design or something! Anyway, for their sins, the same guys also run this excellent little museum - a delightful way to kill half an hour or so of one's time while traipsing round the city centre.
