Abbey Tavern: Eating in the Barn

by grandmaR Updated Jul 17, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This building houses three restaurants: Abbey Tavern, Abbot Restaurant, and The Barn. We went to the Barn, which at first I thought was really the Bar.

The Barn was set up for tourist groups. We were served a typical Irish meal". We both had the leek and potato soup (alternative was Roquefort salad), corned beef and cabbage (alternative was salmon) and I had apple tart and my grandson had ice cream which he said tasted of butterscotch. Afterwards there was Irish Coffee (my grandson had coke and I had nothing), and Irish dancing (photo 2) which we had previously seen on our first night..

Then they had music and singing. There was a violin, a guitar, a girl singer, and a man who sometimes played the violin and sometimes a wind instrument. They played the old Irish songs, and at the end they called my grandson, Ryan and Victoria up on stage. It ended really late - both for the kids and for me, and made it hard to wake up the next day.
