    The essential Dublin kit

by Kulprit Written Feb 17, 2005

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: Dublin is a compact city which is easy to navigate on foot or by public transport. Be sure, then, to have a day bag or small backpack to keep your bits and pieces in while you explore.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: You'll probably spend plenty of time afoot so have comfy walking shoes. Rainwear is essential all year round. You may not need it but it's impossible to predict just if and when the skies will open so, even in summer, light waterproofs or umbrella are adviseable. If, however, you get caught out in a shower there's always a welcoming pub within a stonesthrow...

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Readily available. Some late night pharmacies in the city centre. Also vast 24 hour supermarket at Clearwater in Finglas which is about 15 or 20 minutes in taxi from city centre.

Photo Equipment: Most photo shops now catering for the digital age so you should be able to download full media cards to cd so that they're clear to start shooting again. Conn's Cameras, near Grafton Street at the back of Brown Thomas store is a good pro store.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Lots of camping possibilities across the nation though not in Dublin. A pair of German tourists arrived at the airport a few years ago, made their way directly to Phoenix Park (Dublin's equivalent of Central Park) and pitched tent. They were mugged and relieved of all their valuables before the night was through so if you're camping keep it outside the city.

Miscellaneous: Whilst Ireland's reputation as a friendly country is well deserved, Dublin is a capital city like any other with it's degree of petty crime stemming from the global drugs culture. Therefore, do take sensible precautions to avoid looking obviously touristic and keep valuable out of sight and secure.

    Packing List

by jenniferhen Written Sep 8, 2002

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: I took my trusty backpack just for the fact that I love her, it was not overly needed though...

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: OK, the one thing that Ireland and us share is the nutty and ever changing weather....bring warm cloths, rain cloths, and of course your shorts! Make sense....good

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Dublin has it all, do not worry about not being able to find stuff except Lay's chips :)

Photo Equipment: Lots of film is needed here! This country is amazing and great photo opportunities around every corner...

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: There is no beach that I could find but I was not looking that hard, the inland is way too pretty to worry about a silly beach.

Miscellaneous: Bring lots of money because a pint is around 3 punts and in Canadian terms, that is about 7 dollars for one beer, but man is it good. Do not worry about bringing travellers cheques or cash, there are bank machines around every corner thankfully....the beer takes up alot of money. :)
