County Dublin Tourist Traps

  • Temple Bar

    Dublin Tourist Traps

Nice area with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants but definitely aimed at tourists & hence pretty expensive. Go & see it but if you want souvenirs, food or drink there's plenty of other places to choose from!!! The side streets between Grafton Street and George's Street offer main smaller shops and restaurants without the crowds of Temple Bar...

  • Guinness Brewery

    Dublin Tourist Traps

So before i visited the brewery i read lots of fellow VT'ers opinions on it. I have to say for the most part they were correct. Altough there were a few intresting things to see and you get a "free" pint of guinness, there is nothing great about this place. As you have undoubtable read it has not been a working brewery in a long time. So you do not...

  • Book of Kells

    Dublin Tourist Traps

I do not know if it is a usual practice, but we arrived 20 or so minutes before the Book of Kells exhibition closed and were let in for free. With that behind us, we were rather impressed. I agree with previous tips that the Long Room was more interesting than the book. I found 20 minutes to be plenty. I fear I would have felt very very...

  • Transport

    Dublin Tourist Traps

I have booked a return taxi transfer Dublin Airport- Best Western Sheldon Park Hotel Dublin for the 16th/19th March on the 9th March at Dublin Taxi Transfers. On 16th March I did not have any problem with the transfer. To be sure about the return I have emailed a confirmation about the order of a taxi at the hotel at 8:00 AM and we have recieved...

  • Dublin Castle

    Dublin Tourist Traps

The Dublin castle basicaly doesn't exist anymore, it was destroyed during the uprisings and rebuilt in a diferent style than the original. If you epect a real castle you WILL be disapointed, especially since it is now surrounded by office buildings. What is worth visiting are the castle grounds, maybe bring your Starbucks in and simply relax there....

  • Millenium Spire

    Dublin Tourist Traps

Big ugly thing stuck in the middle of the main street O Connell St. What an eye-sore. What an expensive eye-sore it was to build too... If you have to visit, view it from Henry St...you get the full effect, without being knocked down by raging traffic.

  • St Patricks Cathedral

    Dublin Tourist Traps

I was dissapointed to find out you had to pay to get into St. Patricks (5 €) and that the shop was larger than the cathedral itself. I didnt pay to get into a shop, instead, I enjoyed the outside of it. go check the garden besides it. It is incredible St. Mary's Pro Cathedral, small, off the typical routes, free and charming.

  • Dublin Zoo.

    Dublin Tourist Traps

Dublin Zoo is very old and space is limited. It is depressing to see the animals in small enclosures, but for the most part, they're really well looked after, and the keepers care about them. However, the animals are usually just as bored as the visitors and are often hiding. So don't get disappointed if you don't see the large cats like lions,...

  • Museum of Moldern Art

    Dublin Tourist Traps

I hate to bad mouth this place as I guess they try hard, but it can't hold a candle to other museums of modern art I've seen. The displays were minimal at best; not minimalist, just minimal. I sort of stumbled into the place and after spending an hour was sorry I took the time. Sorry 'bout that but it's the truth. The first problem is to get...

  • The shamrock...yes is it sad...

The shamrock...yes is it sad but true, the Irish told me so, the harp that graces the bottles of Guinness is actually their National Emblem, not the shamrock. It is a very common misconception amoung tourist to think that but the Irish don't mind being known by that little 4 leaf clover either way! But it was actually Saint Patrick who made the...
