KC Blakes: Larger than Life Chef in Little Ol' Galway
Greatest Restaurant in Ireland. Chef/Owner John will dazzle you with his exotic tales of fast cars, luxury travel and hunting trips that provide the fresh game for many of the specials. One might say that he is larger than life, all the while managing the kitchen and staff to culinary excellence. Gordon Ramsay step aside, John is here to stay. His lovely wife Vicki is often seen working the room, when John is off on yet another adventure. I was fortunate to dine one evening when the specials of the night were a beatiful venison stew, and roast pheasant, both taken by John that very day whilst rubbing elbows with the Irish hoi polloi at his very exclusive hunt club catering to the newly monied Celtic Tiger elite. The service was quite good despite the fact that most of the waitstaff were Eastern Europeans who barely spoke English, and the decor was pleasant enough despite being Euro Modern with a lilt of Ikea. The one thing that irked me more than anything was the menu laden with typo after typo. In the days of spell check, there is no reason to have pate de fois gras spelled patty da fwa gwa.
Bottom line, quite good, a tad on the high side, but well worth it for the local flavor you get from the personal tableside banter by none other than His Majesty John KC Blake Casey.
Favorite Dish: Desserts are to die for. The Vicki Souffle was fluffy as a cloud and the Tira Misu a la Michaela was the best I've ever had. The cocktail list was also out of the world. It's the only place in Ireland that can make a decent Apple Martini.

McSwiggans: unbelievable food and atmosphere
anything in galway is fabulous. this restaurant especially, was wonderful. from what i remember the atmosphere was really nice, not like a college or chain scene. it felt i guess, "classy". at times my vocabulary fails me :)
i had this thing throughout the trip, where i would start off realllllly wanting one meal, but everyone else would order it. so i wanted to be different and i would order what next appealed to me. this method really didnt work well, because about 90% of the time, my meal sucked and everyone elses looked/tasted/smelled fantastic. but even tho my mcswiggans dinner was bland, the desert made up for it. chocolate hazelenut cake. warmed and drizzled with chocolate sauce. mmmmmmmmmmm.... chocolate sauce....
GBC (Galway Baking Company): Great place if need food fast but good.
There is sort of a buffet line downstairs, so you just get in lin and pick out whatever looks good to you. All kinds of things to choose from such as homemade soups, sandwiches, light lunches, dinner. Upstairs is the restaurant where you can order from the menu after 4 PM. They also have menus in French, German, Spanish, Italian, and irish.
Open 12 noon-10 PM. Lunch starts at 12 noon.
