Ok any bets ? I'll give 3-1 on for Buddhism. by sourbugger The Galway races are one of the major events of the horseracing calendar. They usually take place the last week in July (in 2004 they will finish on Sunday 1st August) They are unusual in that they last for a full seven days, with some evening, and some full-day events. The course itself is quite hilly, but compact with a ruined castle in the middle ! The facilities are excellent, although the popularity of the meeting means it is very difficult to get a hotel room during the week, and the roads get completely clogged up. Admission is quite steep, at 25 euro on the two biggest days - quite a loss even before you start betting ! The course was also the setting for a massive Papal mass when Pope John Paul II visited Ireland in the 1970's.
Bags of cash ! If you go on Ladies day - then enter the spirit and dress up. Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingDirections: Off the Sligo road (N17) about 3 miles out of town, near the airport.Website: www.galway races.com

Gailic football seems to be a hugh sport in Galway. I saw the sport on the Telly during my visit and seemed to be alot like rugby. Neverthless Galway boasts a very good team and were the reigning champs in the sport when I visited the town in 2002. You will spot their fans in what look like maroon soccer jerseys. Go see Galway United at their home ground TERRYLAND PARK on every second Friday night at 7.30pm. The supporters are great fun. The pitch is one of the best soccer pitches in Europe...seeing is believing. You can also visit the stadium most days between 9.30am and 4.30pm. Hot food and Galway United merchandise are on sale on match days. The Irish professioinal soccer season commences in April and finishes in November. Check out http://.www.fai.ie for fixtures
The Irish summer is unpredictable. Terryland Park has plenty of cover to prevent sunburn and/or the pissing rain! Get there 30 minutes before kick off and you can park at the ground. A taxi from anywhere in the city will probably cost 6 to 10 Euro. Call Galway Taxis 091 561111 Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Terryland Park is on the Dyke RoadDirections: The stadium is less than 2km from Eyre Square in Galway City centre. Ask anyone for the Black Box theatre which is beside the Omniplex cinema. Basically, it's just off the Headford Road on the banks of the river Corrib.Website: http://.www.galwayunitedfc.ie Other Contact: Email news@galwayunitedfc.ie
