Galway comes alive during the world famous Galway races. Its an experience for everyone - even if like me you've no interest in horses - its all about the incredible atmosphere that makes the whole of Ireland visit galway every July. The races can both be enjoyed at the track and then later you must visit the city to join the revellers - you'd never guess they just lost money!

In the lobby of the Raddison Hotel, the Oyster Ball had just gotten done in the main ball room and the place was swarming with Black Ties and ball gowns. The piano player was playing Elton John with great gusto.
I rode the elevator up to Palie?s room and woke her ***ass up belting out that I had just loved and lost a very hot man, but never mind that, lets get our best dress on and go to the Ball! And with in, miraculously, 10 minutes we were downstairs, drinking Harvey Wall Bangers and chatting with a very nice Anthony Hopkins look-alike millionaire from Dublin.
At about 4:00am, I was singing Willie Neilson songs to a rather large group of men, and trying to remember what was in a Harvey Wall Banger. As I said good night and parted ways, one bold man said: ?Aren?t you coming to my room?? To this I replied: ?You wouldn?t know what to do with me if I did.? This was the truth as I know it.

There are a couple . . .
The Galway International Oyster Festival: The Galway International Oyster Festival was founded in 1954 and is now in its 48th year of unbroken sequence. Each year, it draws visitors from all over the world and according to the Sunday Times, it's one of “The Twelve Greatest Shows on Earth”. Over 100,000 native oysters will be consumed and in excess of €6.35 million will be spent by Galwegians and visitors to the city and county during this colourful week of gourmet food, good Guinness and great fun.
. . . and the Clarenbridge Oyster Festival : The festival takes place every September at the opening of the Oyster season. Although much as changed since 34 people attended the very first festival in 1954, its heart remains the same. It is now established as one of Ireland's leading social events. While retaining its Galway roots it is very much an international festival with visitors and participants coming from every corner of the globe. It is the largest and most diverse arts festival in Ireland, running every summer for two weeks in July. Highlights each year include an extensive theatre programme and a colourful night-time parade which lights up the streets. The Festival has always featured major Irish and international theatre events, as well as an eclectic mixture of street theatre, visual art, music, comedy and dance.

Galway has an annual Oyster festival. This festival is great fun and Galway city explodes into an even better joint than it usually is.
The guy in the picture for instance decided to stand in his balcony and sing for the passers by.
