Gift shops by Dun Aonghasa: Aran Traditions
The shop is located at the foot of Dun Aonghasa hill. This is where you park your car or bicycle to visit Dun Aonghasa fort.
There are several gift/craft shops selling jewelry, linen, books, snacks, postcards, knit, candle, and other craft items.
What to buy: I wanted to buy Aran sweater, but I really don't wear a sweater... Then, I saw a lady knitting a large size shawl, which was perfect for the bed spread. I bought one with non-dyed wool, which has a bit of tan colour and the distinct smell of Aran knit. It has several popular Aran knit patterns, and is very beautiful. :)
What to pay: It seemed that you pay less at this gift/craft shops than what you'd pay at the shops near the ferry port.
Aran Market: Aran Sweaters
Many visitors to the Aran Islands came with the deosre to come away with an Aran Sweater. If you wish to buy a sweater or other Aran design, you can easily pick up something at the Aran Sweater Shop in Kilronan but be prepared to pay over the odds. You can pick one up cheaper elsewhere on the island but the shop in Kilronan has the largest selection and is the easiest to find.
All in all there are not many shops in Inishmore but there are a couple of souvenir shops near the harbour selling i.e. Aran sweaters, which are beautiful but oh so expensive!Related to:
