A Stretch of the Coast Road

We rented bikes to get us from the port town of Kilronan to Kilmurvey and our B & B (about 5 km). Later, we explored a bit of the far side of the island on bike. Between the two towns, there is a coast road and a high road. The high road is pretty but hilly and less inviting. We took the coast road and were floors by the views. The ride was incredibly easy as there were only a few hills.

Had we had more time on the island, we would have certainly spent more time on our bikes. As it was, they were a fantastic choice.

Equipment: There are a number of bike rentals. Some approached us once we stepped off the ferry, but we declined and wandered into town first. After a great lunch of fish and chips, we merely walked to the closest bike shop and rented two bikes. The prices seemed competitive to the others we'd seen - no great variation in price.

The bikes were new and well-tuned mountain bikes. The next morning, we had to return to Kilronan for the ferry but it was pouring rain. We were assured at the b&b that we could leave our bikes there. We took a bus into town and handed the bike key to the attendant (a very handsome young Englishman) who said he'd collect them later. This seemed common practice on the small island but was great service as far as I was concerned.
