overheard in the local shop
Favorite thing: The following line of though could only happen in rural ireland :
A lady was talking to the shop assistent whilst SB was waiting patiently. She was telling her about her Sunday in a local pub.
"It was bucketing with rain last night, as you know.It was cold inside, something wrong with the heating. The price of Guinness has gone up, which annoyed my husband and the band were terrible. But sure....we grand a grand night !"
Only in Ireland.
What's that all about then ?
Favorite thing: Just opened in Abbeyknockmoy is a rather nice little beauty parlour, situated in an atmospheric position above the local chip shop.(see tip on Abbeymacs)
Although this is rural Ireland, they offer all the up to date treatments. These includes ladies haircuts in the, how should I put this politely, area that is not your head, if you see what I mean.
This sparked quite some debate when a local woman proudly announced recently that the service was excellent and she was supporting a rather good Hawaian. Quite what she meant we never quite worked out. Perhaps it has small pieces of pineapple down there or a grass skirt.
Other possibilities included :
The Hollywood - although the is 'Barren earth' policy should pehaps be called the 'Arizona'
The Brazilian - presumbly because you can still wear a thong with it on Copacabana beach. Or perhaps refers to small airport in the Amazon.
The Calafornian - which is apparantly a small triangle pointing downwards to help those men with an I.Q of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Any more suggestions to add to their menu ?
What's a Glaswegian or a Birkenhead eh ?
Fondest memory: Contact 'Eveness' in Abbeyknokmoy, Co Galway, Ireland
When will I be famous? - first in the book.
Favorite thing: The Encyclopedia of Ireland has been a massive undertaking over the past few years - and it has indeed resulted in the production of a massive book.
The very first entry in this tome is 'Abbeyknockmoy Abbey'. (see other must see tips). This may well inspire many more people to visit the place - I've already seen a couple of example of this : see the website mentioned below which has a blog entry for January 2004.
