I would take a moutain shoe or something with some traction for exploring the hills. I would also pack something more casual if your eating out. Also take a parka with a hood or bring a hat. It rains here quite often.
Some parts of the Commemara are remote and your choices are small. If your staying locally just bring a travel bag with the usual toiletries.
A camera either digital or film is a must. I took alot of pictures and if you run out of film or batteries you might me hard pressed on the Connemara. Also charge all your batteries for the digital cameras before you head out.
I just want to stress the importance of raingear. Getting caught in a downpour and having to spend the rest of your day wet is very avoidable.
